The purpose of this position is to provide architectural leadership in design and implementation of data products that can produce actionable insights which third parties will be willing to pay for. Responsible for developing, integrating and automating the data collection and processing pipelines all the way to visualization and user experience. Ensuring all developments (even for PoC or prototypes) can be scaled up and taken to operations in a short period so that time to market is reduced. Proactively contribute to the efforts in building a single unified data products architecture. Taking the data architectural lead with the multiple virtual teams required for implementing end-to-end commercial use cases, that will be part of du’s Big Data portfolio.
o Total work experience to be at least 9 years.
o Experience (at least 4 years) in a similar capacity (preferably within a Telco). Proven experience leading technical teams.
o Strong record in building data products and models that have gone all the way from prototype to beta to operations (both in near-real time and batch scenarios).
o Comfortable developing world-class software that transforms analytical models into a scalable service.
o Lean and scientific mentality. Strong orientation to solving real customer problems.
o Must demonstrate a deep knowledge of distributed processing techniques and engines (preferably Spark).
o Excellent coding skills both in the Object-Oriented and Functional paradigms (Scala/Java).
o Strong skills working with spatio-temporal data and GIS technologies such as QGIS, Google Maps and ArcGIS. Geospatial libraries (Geotools, JTS) and Coordinate Reference Systems (WGS84, UTM).
o Ability to effectively plot complex and multi-dimensional datasets (involving spatial and temporal features) and to visualize end-customer insights so that they are ready to be consumed by non-technical audiences.
o Hands-on experience with dashboarding tools (Qlikview, Microstrategy, Tableau).
o Comfortable with SQL, relational DBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and MPPs (Teradata, Greenplum). Spatial extensions (PostGIS).
o Good understanding of the main components in any Hadoop deployment (HDFS, YARN, NoSQL databases, data access components, workflow scheduling, cloud management and monitoring, etc).
o Minimum Masters Degree, preferably in Computer Science.
