Honour killing: Man burns 22-year-old daughter alive for marrying against his wish

Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh: A man along with his family members burnt their 22-year-old daughter alive as she got married against their wish. The family tied the girl to a cot, poured kerosene and burnt her alive to death in Moradabad on Friday afternoon, police said.

As per a report by HT, the girl was with her 2-year-old son and a female relative when her father and others, sparing her child committed this heinous crime.

“The house of 22-year-old was attacked by her father and others at around 2 pm on Friday. They reportedly manhandled her and later set her on fire before fleeing from the place,” said Superintendent of Police (city) Ashish Srivastav.

The girl’s in-laws told the police that she married a man identified as Sajid Ali three years ago against the will of her parents. But her father, Mashruf Raza Khan and others refused to accept the marriage. “Based on preliminary evidence and the statements given by the families it seems that it might be a case of honour killing,” said Srivastav.

A police reached the scene at 3 pm and collected evidence. The remains of the body were sent for the post-mortem.

An FIR has been registered under 302(murder) and other sections of IPC against 11 people including Mashruf Raza Khan. One of the accused, girl’s cousin Ashraf, was arrested on Friday night. Police are on the lookout for the others.
