Hyderabad: Woman battles for life as rod from metro site falls on her head

Hyderabad: In a horrendous accident occurred at Nampally, a 38-year-old woman suffered deep head injuries when an iron rod from Metro site crashes on her. Uzma Hafeez and her husband, Abdul Hafeez, were travelling on a bike underneath the under-construction Hyderabad Metro Rail station at Nampally on Saturday morning when the mishap occurred. Both, residents of Rein Bazar, were travelling to Ameerpet to meet their relative.

The iron rod fell on top of Uzma’s head who started bleeding profusely. She was rushed to a private hospital where her condition is said to be critical. She is in ICU. A surgery has been performed on her and she has been kept under observation for 48 hours.

Police suspect that the rod might have slipped from the hands of one of the workers and fell straight on the head of the victim.

A case has been registered under section 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Larsen & Toubro, who is undertaking Metro Rail construction work.
