IAS officer’s son held for murder

Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills police on Sunday arrested Venkata Sukrut (20), son of a senior IAS officer in connection with the murder of a car driver. Venkat is the son G Venkateswara Rao serving in Telangana agriculture department. Both father and son are being questioned.

According to the police, the suspect Venkata Sukrut had an argument with the victim Bhukya Nagaraju (26), of Suryapet district. Both were at the terrace of Sai Kalyani Residency Apartment in Yousufguda on Friday at around 10.30 p.m. they exchanged blows in inebriated condition. Venkata Sukrut hit the victim who suffered injuries and fell on the ground and subsequently died.

Some apartment dwellers felt something fishy and questioned him. Giving dubious answers he fled the spot leaving behind the bag. The next day, foul smell emanated from the bag and the residents alerted local police.

The arrest was made after police retrieved CCTV footage where Sukrut and Bhukya Nagaraju, were recorded going to the terrace of their apartment Sai Kalyani Residency on Friday night. However, only Sukrut was recorded returning.

Nagaraju was working as the driver of Sukrut’s mother, Anita after earlier working for the IAS officer.
