Iftaar Party of TS challenged in High Court, PIL filed

Hyderabad: The division bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising acting Chief Justice, Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T. Rajni admitted a PIL filed by a social activist, Ms. Lubna Sarwat.

The petitioner appealed to the court not to permit Govt. of Telangana to host Iftaar Party.

The court asked the advocate of the petitioner that how can the court intervene in the welfare schemes of the Govt.? The advocate replied that last year, the amount allocated for this purpose was mentioned in the GO but this year, it has been kept secret. The petitioner contended that the funds of Minorities Welfare Dept. and Wakf amounts cannot be utilized for Iftaar and Dinner. A point was raised that non-Muslims are also being invited for the party. They invited CM, it is possible that they might invite Chief Justice of High Court also. The Division Bench made a reference to the GO in which it has been stated that Iftaar arrangements have been made in 420 masajid and in every masjid, 500 persons would be hosted. The court asked Govt. pleader to submit the details of the expenses by Thursday when the hearing would be taken up.
