India shouldn’t attend Commonwealth meet in Pak: Shiv Sena

Shiv Sena, the ruling alliance partner in Maharashtra as well as at the Centre, on Wednesday said India should not participate in the Commonwealth Convention to be held in Pakistan this year in view of the terrorist attack in Punjab that left seven people dead.

Maharashtra Legislative Council chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar said he would convey the sentiments of the House to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Raising a point of propriety in the Council, Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe said after the “mischievous” attitude of Pakistan on the border, it would be inappropriate for the Indian representatives to take part in the Commonwealth Convention in the neighbouring country.

“This is the unanimous feeling of the Council. I request the Chairman to convey our feelings to the Government of India,” said Gorhe, who garnered backing of Congress MLC Bhai Jagtap.
