Iranian Foreign Minister to visit India on Saturday

New Delhi: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will be visiting India on Saturday during which he will hold talks on bilateral, regional and international issues including enhanced energy and trade cooperation with the Indian side.

With Iran surpassing Saudi Arabia to become India’s top crude oil supplier last month, the two sides are also expected to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in the sector.

Earlier this month, the Commerce Ministry had launched a portal to provide relevant information and an e-marketplace for buyers and sellers of India and Iran.

Apart from helping in enhancing bilateral trade, it is also aimed at bridging the communication divide which the business communities face.

The two-way trade between the countries declined to USD 9 billion in 2015-16 from USD 13.13 billion in the previous fiscal.

During his visit, Zarif will also speak on “Fighting Against Terrorism and Extremism as a Global Menace” at an event here.
