James Mangold to be new ‘Captain Nemo’ helmer

Washington : Director James Mangold has been roped in for a trip to ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.’

‘ The Wolverine’ helmer has signed on to direct Disney’s ‘Captain Nemo’ movie, which is designed to serve as an origin story for the ‘ Jules Verne’ antihero, reports the Deadline.

Originally published in a serialized form beginning in 1869, Verne’s ‘ 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ tells the story of Captain Nemo and the crew of his submarine vessel, the Nautilus, as they embark on incredible adventures and encounter fantastic sea life beneath the surface.

Mangold is prepping the sequel to the ‘Wolverine’ film he made with Hugh Jackman, but will navigate ‘ Captain Nemo’ down the line.

Getting a version of this story to the screen is something Disney has wanted to do for a long time, most recently when David Fincher was developing it before he dropped out to direct ‘Gone Girl.’

Production will begin this fall, but since Disney’s film is a true origin story, it might well be different enough to be made in the future. (ANI)
