KCR, Naidu vied for publicity, ignore irrigation: Palvai

Senior Congress leader Palvai Goverdhan Reddy today slammed two Telugu Chief Ministers K Chandrasekhar Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu for ignoring agriculture sector.

Talking to mediapersons here on Sunday, the Rajya Sabha member accused KCR and Naidu of conducting Godavari Pushkaralu for publicity and nothing else. He said people in both the State were cursing the two chief ministers for encouraging corruption in their States. He also alleged that KCR and Naidu vied with each other for massive publicity campaign for the pushkar festivities leaving the governance to wind.

Despite the prevailing drought situation in the two Telugu States, the chief ministers are least bothered about agriculture sector and no steps were being taken for completion of irrigation projects, he charged. There is urgent need for implementation of a perfect plan of action for extending a helping hand to farming community beside completion of irrigation projects, he suggested. He also flayed the Chandrababu Naidu government for taking up Pattiseema project which was not part of Polavaram project as it was mentioned by Parliamentary Standing Committee.

Though Chandrababu Naidu was going ahead with the Pattiseema project, his Telangana counterpart KCR remained calm, he objected. “KCR should raise his voice against this project and ensure that the Telangana region was not to put to loss by it”, he said. The parliamentary standing committee opined that Pranahitha-Chevella project was not feasible, he said, adding that Maharashtra Government’s consent was required for it to be completed. Merely seeking national status to this project was not correct, he said. Instead of misguiding the people, the KCR government should hold talks with the Maharashtra government on the related issues of the project besides sorting out submergence, evacuation and displacement demands, he suggested. He also alleged that KCR was not responding to Centre’s query as to why Telangana Government was not taking up Itchampally project cleared by Central Water Commission. (NSS)
