Keeping Parrots as pets can land you in jail – Find details

Hyderabad: According to Wildlife Protection Act, keeping wild birds as pets is illegal and could land one in jail.

According to the news published in DC, anyone who is keeping wild birds as pets must either handover them to the forest department or release them.

It is also reported that local birds cannot be kept as pets whereas exotic birds such as budgerigars and cockatoos are allowed to be kept as pets. People keep parrots as pets but it is also illegal.

It is to be mentioned that birds listed in Schedule-I of the Wildlife Protection Act cannot be kept as pets and the accused will be punished with an imprisonment of seven years or with fine up to Rs 25,000 or both.
