Kejriwal resorting to desperate gimmicks: Amarinder

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh today termed AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s allegation of a “secret pact” between the SAD-BJP alliance and Congress for the assembly elections next year a “desperate gimmick” by the latter to remain in public eye.

“With no electoral agenda in Punjab, and a dismal track record in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal is resorting to desperate gimmicks to remain in public eye ahead of the Assembly elections,” he claimed.

Dismissing as “ludicrous and nonsensical” the AAP leader’s charges of seat-sharing arrangement between Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Amarinder claimed Kejriwal’s “frustration” is showing in his “senseless banter”.

“It is clear that, faced with widespread revolts from within his party and imminent wipe-out in the forthcoming Assembly polls in Punjab, Kejriwal has lost his mind,” he alleged, adding the AAP leader only sees “conspiracies and persecution threats” around him.

Yesterday, Kejriwal had alleged that SAD-BJP alliance and Congress had reached a “secret pact” to contest next year’s assembly polls by fielding candidates with “mutual understanding”.

“The seat-sharing rhetoric is just another such thing in the long line of conspiracy theories that Kejriwal has been touting ever since he stepped foot in Punjab with an eye on the polls,” he said.

“The level to which his mind has plunged is a clear sign of his frustration at having failed to establish himself as a serious contender for Punjab’s chief ministerial post,” Amarinder alleged.

Urging the AAP national convener to stop indulging in such “fabrications and vapid allegations”, he said it would be better for Kejriwal to “seize control” the affairs of his own party instead of “concocting falsehoods” in a “desperate bid to defame others”.

“If the mess in his party continues to aggravate at its current pace, Kejriwal will soon be left begging for a seat for himself from other parties in Punjab,” Amarinder said.
