Kohli identifies adaptability as key for World T20 success

Mohali : Indian batting sensation Virat Kohli has pointed out that adapting to varying conditions will be the key factor to succeed in the World Twenty20, insisting that his side can secure the semifinals spot if they play to their potential against Australia in the virtual quarterfinal contest in Mohali on Sunday.

“Adaptability is the key when you are playing a tournament like the World Cup. The teams that do it well with most calm head are the ones that will go ahead in this tournament,” Kohli told reporters while addressing a press conference on the eve of the mouth-watering clash.

Earlier this year, India won a three-match T20 series 3-0 in Australia prior to the Asia Cup triumph, and the 27-year-old asserted that India can replicate the success if they play to their potential.

“We can focus on the positive things that we did there against Australia. But we cannot take anything for granted. It is a virtual quarterfinal for us. It is very important to remember why we were able to beat them in Australia. If we play to our potential we have the ability to repeat that again,” he said.

India will carry immense buoyancy from the manner in which it snatched victory out of the gaping jaws of defeat against Bangladesh, while Australia rediscovered their batting zest against Pakistan in their previous match.

“It is all about how you adapt on that particular situation. Although we couldn’t adapt to conditions in our first match against New Zealand, we came back stronger in the next two games. Every team has the ability to upset any team. We respect every opponent and that is why we were able to come back in the tournament,” Kohli added. (ANI)
