A garment factory in north Kolkata was gutted in a fire on Saturday, fire department officials said. No injuries were reported.

The blaze engulfed a ready-made T-shirt factory in Beadon Street at around 6.45 a.m, an official from North Kolkata Fire Traffic Control said.

“Eleven fire tenders were pressed into service for almost three hours to control the fire,” the official said.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out on the fourth floor of a 10-storied office building in the city’s IT hub at Sector-5 Salt Lake in the north-eastern fringes, on Friday night.

“The blaze was noticed by the office employees of an IT solutions company during the night shift,” said an official in the fire control room of Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

The floor was immediately evacuated and two fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the blaze.

“We are still not sure how the fire broke out. No one was injured,” the official added.
