KTR never used beacon on his vehicle: Police official

Hyderabad: Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao avoided using beacon (Lal Batti) on his official vehicle immediately after joining the state cabinet nearly three years ago, a senior police official said on Friday.

K T Rama Rao is the son of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and joined the cabinet on June 2, 2014.

“He (KTR) never used beacon (Lal Batti) on official vehicles. KTR was in fact travelling in is personal car initially, but later had to switch to a bullet-proof car provided by the State based on the police department’s advice,” the official said.

In order to avoid inconvenience to the general public, Rao’s convoy never used the beacon or siren and the pilot vehicle he is provided with as part of the security detail, the police official added.

The IT Minister is very particular not to create traffic jams and cause problems to commuters in the capital city and hence shuns all these protocols, a close aide of the minister said.

He, in fact, insists stopping his vehicle at traffic signals like any other ordinary citizen does, the Minister’s personnel said.
