Legislators may get Rs 4 lakh salary

MLAs and MLCs in Telangana State are likely to get a hefty salary hike as Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was mulling options in this direction. If KCR takes a decision they may get a salary hike up to Rs 4 lakh on par with those of Delhi Assembly.
During a meeting at his camp office, the Chief Minister held a related meeting on the issue along with Legislature Secretary Raja Sadaram and other officials. The ministers, Assembly Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Council Chairman and Deputy Chairman, Chief Whip and whips and Leader of Opposition are getting salary of cabinet rank minister while the legislators were getting Rs 95,000 a month.
It may be mentioned here that the legislators, time and again, submitted their pleas for salary hike to the Chief Minister as well as Legislature Secretary. In the meeting, KCR took a close review on the issue of salaries for the legislators across the nation and that of Telangana. The legislators are now getting about Rs 95,000 monthly salary as against an expenditure of Rs 3 lakh. Since the legislators make extensive tours, spend on fuel, maintain gunmen, drivers and bear other expenses at respective segments, there is a need for hike in their salaries. Finally it was discussed on the need for increasing salaries for the legislators and those of cabinet rank. A decision is yet to be taken, a CMO release said. (NSS)
