Madras HC asks State why the cops involved in the theft have not been arrested yet

Chennai: Justice R Mahadevan of Madras High Court has asked A.G Pon Manickavel, IGP of Idol Wing department head about the current status of the Idol smuggling involving police personnel and to why the state government has not yet arrested the culprits by now.

The High Court has earlier directed the IGP to appear before the court on the petition by Elephant G. Rajendran.

The judge asked the Additional Public Prosecutor, C Emilias, “Why you have not arrested them. Don’t you know their whereabouts?”

C. Emilias Additional Public Prosecutor replied saying the whereabouts of the then police personnel are not known to the department as the then Inspector and now DSP Kader Batcha and another constable are absconding whereas the then head constable Subraj has already been arrested.

The judge directed the IGP head to file an affidavit stating the requirements of staff to investigate the case after he asked him the current status of the Idol Wing Department.

The case has been posted on 30 June for further hearing.

Another petition has also been filed by Rajendran in which he sought police protection to him and his family alleging that he received information that a high-rank police officer said “He always gives trouble to the government by filing petitions, harassed real estate persons, now he filed a petition against police. I will teach a lesson to him”. He sought to transfer the investigation of idol theft case to CB-CID.
