Maharashtra man dies of Swine flu in Himachal

Shimla: A 57-year-old man from Maharashtra died of swine flu at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital here this evening.

Avinash Patil fell sick when he was going to Shimla with his wife and two other colleagues. However, they continued with their journey and checked into a hotel in Shimla where his condition worsened and he was shifted to the IGMC at midnight, Senor Medical Superintendent Dr Romesh Chand said.

The doctors collected his blood samples and sent them for test and simultaneously started treatment but he died this evening. The reports received late in the evening confirmed that he was suffering from swine flu, he said.

The IGMC authorities made arrangements for sending the body to Maharashtra. The wife of the deceased and the other two persons have also been given temiflu.

This was the second death due to Swine flu in Himachal Pradesh over one week.

Last Thursday, a 65-year-old patient from Dehra in Kangra district died of swine flu.

More than half-a-dozen cases of swine flu have been reported in two state-run medical colleges and hospitals in Shimla and Kangra over the last week.
