Malegaon case: Mark inquiry to expose Congress’ design, says Swamy

New Delhi: With the opposition targeting the Centre for a clean chit to six accused of the 2008 Malegaon blast case, launching a counter attack, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) M.P. Subramanian Swamy on Friday said the government should do something good for them (the six accused) so that they could forget their 12 years and mark an inquiry to expose the Congress’ design.

“The Congress party had special affinity with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a terrorist organisation based in Pakistan, because as soon as they came to power, they revoked the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI),” said Swamy.

“Further, Congress vice president Rahul, according to WikiLeaks, told the American Embassy that his party considers ‘Hindu terror’ more threatening than the LeT. But when the United Nations declared LeT an international terrorist organisation for its role in the Samjhauta Express blast case, the Congress took a summersault and tried to change everything. So, the Congress party was somewhere trying to save the LeT, and wasted 12 years of fine people,” he added.

When asked who were behind the blast, Swamy said, “The blast was carried out by terrorists, who were arrested earlier, but they (the then government) added a new list later. The old list still exists and a chargesheet is yet to be filed on that.”

When told that Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said it was an attempt to defame former Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare, he shot back: “He will speak like that. He was killed by terrorists, but whether he had done something wrong under some influence, only an inquiry could tell this. But, I want to say that all these things happened when the Congress was at the helm, so you ask them.”

Earlier, Digvijay Singh expressed his disappointment over the chargesheet mentioning the investigation conducted by former Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare was flawed, saying even martyrs are under suspicion during the rule of the NDA regime.

“The person, who gave his life fighting for the glory of the nation, is now being framed as a person who tried to falsely implicate the accused,” Singh added.

Singh also said that the Centre wants to protect the Malegaon convicts.

“We also know that you have been in contacts with all who have been involved in the terror attack, but my appeal to the Centre is please don’t accuse Hemant Karkare of wrongly implicating the Malegaon convicts,” he added.

Training his guns at Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Singh wondered whether this was the reason for extension given to the NIA director.

“This a matter of pity that the National Investigative Agency, which was formed to probe matters of terrorism, is now saving the perpetrators involved in terrorism,” he alleged. (ANI)
