Man dies in ATM line: Family questions ‘ignorance’ of onlookers

Kolkata (West Bengal): The family of Kallol Ray Chowdhury, who yesterday died while standing in an ATM queue near Bandel station in Hooghly district, has expressed its disgust over the ignorance of the people preferring money over life as none came to his rescue.

“How can they be so heartless when someone is lying for 30 minutes and no one noticing that? People were crossing over the dead body,” said Shushoban Ray Chowdhury, the deceased’s son.

“People realized importance of money before saving a life. He was under tension regarding the cash crunch. He died not due to lack of money but ignorance of the people,” he added.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also vented her anger on Twitter.

“Unfortunate death toll continues… This morning Kallol Roy Chowdhury collapsed and died in front of SBI ATM at Bandel station,” she tweeted.

“My condolences to the bereaved family. Is Modi babu listening?” she said in a series of tweets while hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
