Manipur man beaten up BPO boss parades him naked for ‘data theft’

Gurugram: A 29-year-old man who was working in a BPO firm in Gurugram’s Udyog Vihar accused the CEO and staff of beating him up on suspicion of stealing company data.

Romen Abrambam, joined the firm in November 2016, lives in Delhi’s Mahipalpur. He was called by his manager Abhimanyu Madan on January 13, in the presence of CEO Puneet Kumar and Deepak, co-owner of his employer TGS IT Solution.

They questioned him about data theft that led to a loss of Rs 2 crore. They snatched his phone and accessed emails. Denying the charges Abrambam said other employees also had access to the same data, “he was singled out unnecessarily”.

He said.”My phone was confiscated. I was taken to a colleague’s home in Delhi and then brought back to the office and humiliated in front of other employees.”

He added “four bouncers” were called to beat him up. “I was kicked with shoes, stripped and beaten mercilessly by the bouncers and other people. The onlookers made videos. They kept asking me to reveal who had stolen the data. They made me parade naked and I fell unconscious.”

They took him to Neelkanth Hospital. He alleged that. “The manager told doctors I fell down the stairs. Without being examined, I was given an injection and discharged.”

Next day he visited the trauma center at AIIMS for further treatment and then  contacted Gurgaon Police. A case has been registered in Udyog Vihar Police station under sections 148, 149, 323 and 506.
