Muzaffarnagar: A 40-year-old married gangrape victim allegedly committed suicide after a video clip of the act recorded by the accused was circulated by them on a social media messaging application.
The victim, an ASHA worker, consumed poison at Chapra village yesterday after she came to know about the objectionable video being circulated on WhatsApp, city SP Pradeep Gupta said.
On Sunday, the woman was allegedly raped by four persons who also filmed the act, he said.
An FIR has been registered against the accused in the case, police said
One of the accused, identified as Shahid, aged about 23 years, was arrested today, Gupta said.
Meanwhile, ASHA workers blocked the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway at Chapar for two hours protesting against the incident.
Efforts were on to nab rest of the accused, the Officer said.
