MCD worker’s body found hanging in building

New Delhi: An MCD worker’s body was today found hanging in a building in south east Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area, police said.

Around 11 AM, police received information about the body hanging from the shaft between two flats of the building at Siddharth Extension, they said.

The deceased has been identified as Sunderpal (46). He worked as a sweeper in North MCD and had a case of cheating registered against him, a senior police officer said.

The body was hanging from a very strong plastic rope. No injury marks were found on the body. It is not clear how Sunderpal, who lived with his family at Burari in northwest Delhi, reached there, the officer said, adding the body is in a morgue in AIIMS for post mortem.

Sunderpal had got bail in the case of cheating. The bail document was found with his body, police said.

“Statements of relatives of the deceased have been recorded. Further proceedings under Section 174 of CrPC has been undertaken,” said Romil Baaniya, DCP (south east).

Prima facie it appeared to be a suicide but the case is also being probed from murder angle, police said, adding they are waiting for the autopsy report.
