Molestation case: Suspended JD (U) MLA Sarfaraz Alam granted bail

Suspended Janata Dal (United) MLA Sarfaraz Alam on Sunday was granted bail after he was arrested on the charges of molesting a woman.

The Patna Railway Police arrested Alam today, who allegedly misbehaved with a woman on the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.

“Sarfaraz Alam has been arrested, interrogation is underway,” said District Superintendent of Police A.S. Thakur.

An FIR was registered on Monday against Alam for harassing a couple onboard Rajdhani train. He was also charged with misbehaving with the woman passenger.

However, Alam has been maintaining his innocence saying that the charges against him are false and baseless.

“These allegations are baseless. I did not even travel by that train. There is politics behind this to tarnish my image. I will initiate legal action. I was in Patna and I went by road and came back. The development work is underway in full swing in Bihar and some people do not like it,” Alam said.

Earlier, Alam’s suspension came hours after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assured that action would be taken against, as such ‘conducts cannot be tolerated’ in the party.

The JDU had said that the footage which they had received was damning evidence against the suspended MLA.
