Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Monday said that the encounter of former naxalite-turned-gangster Md. Nayeemuddin may be linked to the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Shabbir Ali said that Nayeemuddin was a witness in the investigation into Sohrabubbin case where he was often referred to as “Kalimuddin”. The Gujarat police, in its investigation, had claimed that Kalimuddin was on board a Hyderabad-Sangli bus in November 2005 with Sohrabuddin and Kauser Bi when they were allegedly abducted by policemen from Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh and killed within days. Although the CBI investigation later claimed that it was not “Kalimuddin”, but Tulasiram Prajapati, the then IGP Geetha Johri, who investigated the case, had claimed that “Kalimudddin”, an informer, was a witness to the abduction of Sohrabuddin and Kauser Bi.
Geetha Johri, in a curative petition filed in the Supreme Court, had reportedly said: “It appears that Kalimuddin was in People’s War Group and then turned police informer and was being protected by the Andhra Pradesh police as a valuable informer for them as also for the central intelligence.” It was also reported that Nayeemuddin was one of the absconding accused in the Haren Pandya murder case. She also reported to have said that the CBI chargesheet contained a statement by Kalimuddin’s sister Saleema Begum saying Kalimuddin had hosted Sohrabuddin and his wife in Hyderabad and was also known as Nayeemuddin.
“Sohrabuddin’s fake encounter is a high profile case involving BJP national president Amit Shah. In July 2010, Amit Shah was arrested and was also banned from entering Gujarat till 2012. Although Amit Shah was acquitted of all charges in December 2014, Nayeem was a major link in both Haren Pandya and Sohrabuddin case. Incidentally, he was killed just one day after PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Telangana. Therefore, the State Government must order a CBI probe to ensure that the truth comes out,” Shabbir Ali said.
Shabbir Ali said that several new facts were emerging in cases related to Nayeem and his gang. Further, suspicions were also being raised on the seriousness of investigation being conducted by Special Investigation Team headed by senior IPS officer Y. Nagi Reddy. “As against the SIT’s claims of seizure of Rs. 2.85 crore, there are rumours that the quantity of cash was huge. There are unconfirmed reports that many property documents, seized from Nayeem’s dens, were either being destroyed or misused,” he alleged.
Shabbir Ali alleged that names of several police officials and politicians have also cropped up. “Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao should ensure transparent and fair investigation into all the cases and ensure that no culprit is let free. The criminal-police and criminal-politician nexus should be exposed. On this pious occasion of 70th Independence Day, the Chief Minister should order CBI probe to put an end to all speculations,” he demanded.
The Congress leader also alleged that so far not a single investigation conducted by State agencies reached its conclusion. Citing instances, he said the investigation into alleged Housing scam by CID remained inconclusive with absolutely no outcome. The ACB’s investigation into ‘Cash for Vote’ scam has hit a road block. KCR had promised to send AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to jail within 15 days due to his alleged involvement in the case. However, entire investigation was hushed up. Similar is the status of CID investigation into Eamcet-2 scam. Instead of arresting the kingpin, the CID is chasing the brokers and entire investigation is proving to be an eye-wash.
“SIT probe into Nayeem’s case too is not going on in right direction. In any government, the SIT will act under the Chief Minister and it cannot be expected to be fair due to political pressure. Therefore, the Chief Minister should immediately order a CBI investigation,” he said. (NSS)
