New Delhi – Busting the persistent speculations, AICC general secretary in-charge of UP, Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Tuesday: “If anyone is saying that Priyanka Gandhi will be the campaign committee chairman in UP, it is false.”
The Congress leader said. “Whether Priyanka will campaign beyond Amethi and Rae Bareilly has not been decided yet. There are possibilities of some changes in the days to come, but this is a continuous process.”
Party leader Tom Vadakkan did not deny the report, saying, “When it is in the realm of speculation, I don’t want to add to it. Let’s wait for 48 hours. The big bang announcement is expected in 48 hours on all TV channels. As an official spokesperson I cannot tell anything. Neither can I confirm anything.”
In the coming days, the AICC is slated to announce a new leadership for the PCC as the PCC president Nirmal Khatri is expected to offer his “on health grounds” and an election-team, based on Azad’s consultations with the Gandhis is expected to announce new leadership including chairman of campaign committee (CM face).
The name of Sheila Dikshit is suggested along with Pramod Tewari, Sanjay Singh and Jitin Prasada for leadership roles. Ms. Dikshit said on Tuesday that. “if the party leadership wants me to do something, I will. In Congress, it will be the party leadership, not Prashant Kishor or any other individual, who will make the decisions.”
The party’s communication chief Randeep Surjewala refused to either confirm or deny whether Priyanka would be campaigning across the U.P.
