No irregularities in purchase of radiation machine in MNJ hospital: Minister

Alleging that politics were going on in the MNJ Hospital, Health Minister Laxma Reddy said the TRS government has appointed a high-level committee to look into the alleged irregularities in the hospital immediately after coming to power.

Responding to a question by Congress members T Rammohan Reddy, Dr G Chinna Reddy and T Jeevan Reddy whether it was a fact that the MNJ Cancer Hospital authorities purchased a radiation machine worth Rs 22 crore and whether it was also a fact that permission was not obtained from the Automic Energy Regulatory Board for purchasing the radiation machine and if so the action taken in this regard, the Health Minister said a delay of one year took place in purchasing the machine due to internal politics in the hospital. Tenders were called in the year 2013 to purchase radiation machine but a single tender had come for it and consequently the hospital authorities availed the machine a year later.

The committee in its report said no irregularities took place in purchasing the machine. The committee also revealed that the machine was a 2.5 updated version, the Minister said. (NSS)
