In view of the spiralling onion prices in the state, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu today directed officials to contain the skyrocketing prices of onions and sell them at Rs 20 per kg from Wednesday at all Rythu Bazaars across the state.

He held a review meeting with officials of AP civil supplies corporation, marketing department and Rythu bazaars at Secretariat today.

During the review the Chief Minister took stock of the situation where the prices of onions have touched Rs 35-40 per kg, burdening the common man. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to ensure that supplies reach Rythu Bazaars by tomorrow and they begin selling at Rs20 per kg from Wednesday.

The Chief Minister asked officials to ensure that traders do not stock up supplies in order to divert it to the black market. “There should be a strict monitoring mechanism. Black marketers will have to face stringent action if found guilty of cartelisation,” he added.

AP State Civil Supplies Corporation MD K. Ramgopal, Marketing Secretary Prem Chandra Reddy and other officials were present at the meeting.

Later, the Chief Minister also held a review meeting with Principal Secretary (Water Resources) Adityanath Das on the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation project. During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the status of other projects too and directed officials to ensure the completion of works of the Lift Irrigation Project by August 15. (INN)
