The other side of Modi

In order to accept anything, it is essential to know about it. In the case of religion, it becomes more difficult for those who profess a different faith. It is therefore, necessary for the Muslims to publish the teachings of Islam in order to eradicate misconceptions.

After 2002, Narendra Modi presented his image as an anti-Muslim which was second to none. America did not give him visa due to his anti-Muslim attitude. He visited U.S. as the Head of the State.

Modi identified himself in India as a communal and fascist Sanghi leader which the Muslims didn’t like. He refused to wear the cap offered by a Muslim. In his speeches delivered after 2002, he recalled the Muslims as “We are five and we have twenty five”. On asking on the communal riots of Gujarat in 2002, he commented “Wouldn’t anyone regret if a puppy is overrun by a car?”

During the recently held International Sufi Conference held in New Delhi, Modi presented the other side of his personality. His speech revealed a quest for knowing Islam. He made references to Shaik Saadi, Hazrath Kwaja Moinuddin Chishti, Hazrath Khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiya Kaki and presented their quotations. He also mentioned 99 names of Allah (SWT) which depict His attributes.

Everyone knows that he did not utter the word “Muslim” in his speeches after 2013. It is a different thing that his colleagues like Sadhavi Prachi, Adityanath, Togadia continue to spread hatred against the Muslims.

After Modi’s speech in Sufi Conference, it came to be known that he is studying books on Islam in English. It is understood that he has also read a book on Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Sources close to Modi told that when he was reading this book during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a delegation of Muslim Ulema had met him. Modi asked them that perhaps Islam is the only religion which makes it obligatory to acquire knowledge but how is it that the Muslims lag behind in getting knowledge? The Muslim Ulema could not reply to this question, perhaps the issue of non – implementation of Ccentral Govt. Scholarships for Muslim students by Govt. of Gujarat was echoing in their minds. Modi participated in a conclave organized by the Muslim businessmen of Gujarat in 2014 wherein there was a stall of Islamic Calligraphy set up by Mr. Zafar Sareshwalla’s wife who is an artist.

On 16th June 2015, Modi released a book “Education of Muslims” written by the noted historian J.S. Rajput. This function was held at India Islamic Center, New Delhi.

During an interview, Modi had told that he does not believe in wearing a cap. He wants the Muslims who hold the Quran in one hand to have a lap top on their other hand.

If he acts according to the thoughts he expressed, his image might change. For it to happen, there is a need to have a dialogue and a congenial atmosphere with mutual respect but the people around him do not seem to provide such an atmosphere. There is a need to produce Islamic Literature in English and other languages also to eradicate the hatred against the Muslims.
