Panel recommends huge hike in legislators’ salaries

Hyderabad: The Amenities Committee of Telangana State Legislative Assembly on Monday recommended huge hike in the salaries and other benefits of MLAs and MLCs in the State.

The Amenities Committee, headed by Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary, met in the Assembly’s Committee Hall on Monday to discuss the issue. The meeting was also attended by Legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud, Legislative Affairs Minister T. Harish Rao, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender and floor leaders of all political parties.

According to sources, the Committee recommended that the salaries of MLAs and MLCs be increased from present Rs. 1.25 Lakh to Rs. 3.5 Lakh. Further, it wanted the vehicle loan limit to be increased from Rs. 15 Lakh to Rs. 40 Lakh. It also recommended increase in pension of ex-legislators from present Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 65,000 and the same amount would be given as pension to the widows of ex-legislators.

The Committee has also proposed that there should be no ceiling on cost of treatment for all legislators of Telangana. (INN)
