AHMEDABAD: After gorging that delicious roadside panipuri (golgappas), you will definitely ask for that extra tangy ‘paani’, won’t you?
But, this incident in Gujarat is sure to make you think twice before you pop that gol-gappe/puchka/panipuris or to have that tangy paani.
According to a TOI report, Chetan Nanji Marvadi, a panipuri vendor has been put behind bars for mixing toilet cleaner in pani-puri water mixture.
After receiving repeated complaints against the vendor from residents of Lal Darwaja area who suspected something fishy in the panipuri water, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in 2009 finally took action and sent samples to the food testing laboratory.
The tests results were shocking as the sample panipuri water revealed the presence of oxalic acid (used in toilet cleaners).
On the basis of the test result, the AMC filed the case against the vendor in the local adulteration court.
7 years later, the special court finally held Marvadi as guilty and sentenced him to six months in jail.
So, if you are planning to have some delicious street food, you should be aware of the following:
- Keep an eye on where the shop/stall is located
- Food items are not expose and are covered
- Make sure that cleanliness is maintained
- While making the fast food, see that the vendor is clean and should be wearing gloves.
