Patwari arrested in Chandigarh while taking bribe

New Delhi: A patwari (revenue official) was on Saturday arrested by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar district.

Sukhiram Sahu (57), posted at Sitapar village under Palari tehsil, was caught red-handed while accepting bribe from the complainant Omprakash Singh Thakur for providing land-related documents, an ACB official told PTI.

Thakur wanted to sell one acre of his ancestral land for which he needed B-1 `khasra’ and land map documents.

Sahu demanded Rs 17,000 for providing the documents and took Rs 2,000, asking Thakur to come with the rest of amount to his office-cum-residence at Balodabazar on Saturday.

As Thakur lodged a complaint with ACB, a trap was laid at Sahu’s house and he was arrested on Saturday. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered. Further probe is on.
