President condoles loss of lives in Maharashtra bridge collapse

New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday condoled the loss of lives in a bridge collapse on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Maharashtra.

In a message to Maharashtra Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao, the President said: “I am sad to learn about the accident in which some people were washed away when a bridge on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in Konkan region of Maharashtra collapsed due to heavy rains today.”

He said he was sure the state government and other agencies would leave no stone unturned in providing help and assistance to the bereaved families.

“Kindly ask concerned authorities to make speedy efforts to rescue remaining survivors. Necessary action may please be also taken to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure that such mistakes do not happen in future,” the President said.

Mukherjee also conveyed his condolences to the family members of the deceased.

“I pray to the Almighty to give them the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
