Prof. Haragopal demands action against oppressors of brick kiln workers

Hyderabad: Civil Rights Activist Prof. G. Haragopal said the brick kiln workers were facing regular violence at the work spot from owners and managements in the kiln of Venkateshwar Rao at Peddapalli in Karimnagar district.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Prof. Haragopal said the brick kiln management has been thrashing the workers ruthlessly on one pretext or another. One Sahadev, who was working as tractor driver in the kiln was badly beaten up on the evening of January 14 by owner Venkateshwar Rao, Munsi, Jaipal, and two others.
Prof. Haragopal demanded that the Karimnagar district Collector take suo motu action against the brick kiln owner Venkateshwar Rao, the management and all those who were involved in physical, sexual and verbal violence on the hapless workers. “The Collector must take action against the local Revenue and Police officials besides ordering cases under SC/ST Atrocities Act, Bonded Labour Act, Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, Labour Act, Minimum Wages Act and so on against the kiln management.
Prof. G. Vijay, Prof. Surepalli Sujatha, students of University of Hyderabad and others were present. (NSS)
