Rampur: SP arrests woman two days after she alleged Cop asked for sexual favours

RAMPUR: Two days after 37-yr-old gang rape victim who alleged that the Investigation Officer(IO) she approached asked for sex in exchange of arresting her culprits who are on the loose was arrested for “cheating” on Friday.
The 37-yr-old woman who then approached Superintendent of Police of the Ganj Police station with her evidence (a recorded CD of conversation between her and the IO), the woman was nabbed after the SP ordered probe into the IO’s matter.

At the press conference the Police said they have retrieved the mobile phone from which the recording has been made and said the recording was made by the woman’s alleged ‘boyfriend’ and not the IO following which the two were arrested on Friday.

Following the claims of the woman, the Superintendent ordered Ganj Station House Officer for immediate inquiry into the matter, which the SHO seems to have completed within two days and submitted his report on the case. Though the evidence has not yet been sent to forensic department Police claims this alleging was a criminal conspiracy against the IO to ruin his malign the sub-inspectors reputation.

Ganj Station House Officer Revendra Pratap Singh, who carried out the investigation said, “No forensic test was required in the case because it has been proved that a phone we recovered was the one that was used to make the call which the woman recorded. It was made by her boyfriend.”

The SHO did not comment when he was asked that the call could have been made by anybody and not just the boyfriend.

Rampur SP Vipin Tada said, “The woman and her boyfriend had hatched a criminal conspiracy against the sub-inspector (IO) to malign police’s reputation. In the CD with the alleged telephonic conversation between her and the IO, the voice of the man she is speaking with does not match the officer’s.”

The Police has also included an unknown lawyer in the case. Following which the city lawyers are now planning to take the matter with the UP CM. Senior advocate, member and former president of Bar Council of UP Imran Mahbood Khan, said, “How the police are trying to implicate a lawyer in the case is a matter of grave concern for the judicial system. The entire Bar Council stands with the lawyer and we will raise the issue with UP CM Yogi Adiyanath”, reported TOI.
