Reliance Jio scoreboard at Eden in February: Ganguly

Kolkata: Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly on Friday said that industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio would be putting up a new scoreboard at the iconic Eden Gardens.

“Reliance will be putting up the scoreboard at Eden Gardens at the cost of Rs.2.5 crores on February 15,” Ganguly told reporters here.

He denied there will be a problem relating to ambush marketing during the coming twenty20 World Cup as Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom) is an official partner of the International Cricket Council.

Ganguly also took a dig at his colleagues from the association who have been criticising him for some time for “mismanagement”.

“I am doing all this for the benefit of the association. There are people here constantly criticising things I am trying to do. I can say a lot, but I’m restraining myself,” he said.

“You have to remember that these people were in power here in 2011 when the Eden Gardens lost the right to host a World Cup match.”

The ICC had denied Eden Gardens permission to host the India-England tie in the 2011 World Cup saying the ground was “underprepared”.

Questioned by a media person if he thinks that he is facing opposition because he is backed by the West Bengal chief minister, Ganguly said: “Everybody at some point of time have sought support from ministers. It has happened in the CAB, as also in the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). They will be lying if they say they have never sought support.”
