Retired pilot found dead, suicide suspected

New Delhi: A retired pilot of a private airline was found dead at his residence in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area, with police suspecting that he committed suicide by shooting himself after an argument with his wife and daughter today.

Anand Kumar (61) reportedly had an argument with his wife and daughter following which he fired in the air from his licensed revolver, Rishi Pal Singh DCP (East) said.

Scared of the firing, they rushed out of the house. On hearing another gunshot after some time, they came back and found his body lying in a pool of blood, the officer said.

“Anand was suffering from kidney problems and had sought voluntary retirement around five to six years back. He had also undergone a kidney transplant, but was under depression because of his health,” police said.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters. His elder daughter is married and lives in Germany. His wife and younger daughter had returned from Germany yesterday.

No suicide note has been found yet. Statements of the deceased’s family members will be recorded after the last rites, they said.
