Revanth questions hasty decision to create new districts

Telangana TDP working president and floor leader in the Assembly  A Revanth Reddy today questioned the motive behind the TRS government’s hasty decision in creation of new districts without re-organisation of Assembly constituencies.

In an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the TDP leader has reminded that the Chief Miniser had stated in the Assembly that there would be some administrative problems “if we create new districts without re-organisation of Assembly constituencies”. But now the State government was going ahead with creation of new districts hastily, he added. He also said there were flaws in the draft notification of new districts. Seven of the 27 proposed districts have a population of only seven lakh each while the remaining districts have 15 to 40 lakh population each. Similarly, some districts have 20 to 26 mandals in their jurisdiction other districts have 10 to 18 and 8 to 10 mandals. It appears the government could not take into consideration the population ratio and administration, he opined.

The TTDP leader also alleged that creation of new districts would benefit only TRS leaders and cause inconvenience to general public as some villages nearer to district headquarters presently have been shifted to faraway places and included in the proposed new district headquarters. Revanth Reddy demanded re-organization of Assembly constituencies before creation of new districts. He also said if the government goes ahead without considering the Opposition’s suggestion, the latter would launch agitation and approach the court  if necessary. (NSS)
