Revanth slams Govt for neglecting farmers

Telangana Telugu Desam party working president A Revanth Reddy today accused the State government of totally neglecting the toiling farmers by denying them minimum support price.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Revanth Reddy demanded that the government immediately announce minimum support price for agriculture produce and find lasting solutions to farmers’ woes. The TTDP leaders including Revanth Reddy, Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, Seethakka and others today laid a siege to office of the Agriculture Commissioner. They alleged that the State government was showing criminal negligence by not offering MSP to the farmers for their produce.

“Though making tall promises, the government was not implementing schemes for the cause of the farmers”, they charged. He also demanded that the government focus on the farmers’ problems and provide remunerative price to farm produce. The TTDP leaders also staged protests and shouted slogans against the government for denying MSP to chilli and other crops. The farmers are incurring heavy losses due to lack of MSP to their produce such as redgram, chilli, and turmeric, Revanth Reddy said, adding that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy were ignoring farmers’ problems deliberately. While the neighboring AP Government was offering a remunerative price of Rs 8,000 to a quintal of chilli, the Telangana government was giving only Rs 3,000 to Rs 4000, Revanth Reddy said and warned that his party would fight for the cause of the farmers until their problems are resolved by the government.

Later, the police took them into custody and whisked them away to the Begum Bazaar police station. (NSS)
