Rs 600 crore for Sriramsagar, says Harish

Hyderabad: Minister for Irrigation, T Harish Rao today said that Rs 600 cr will be spent for speedy completion of Sriramsagar flood flow canal works and turn it as a reservoir in one year time. The project will get Kaleshwaram waters and on completion it helps irrigating crops despite no rainfall in the area, he claimed.
SRSP modernisation works are on in full swing and tenders have already been called for and steps will be taken to irrigate two crops in a year, he said. Earlier, Harish Rao laid foundation for Rollavagu project to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore to irrigate 14,693 acres at Birpur, Dharmapuri mandals, including 25 villages in Jagitial district.
Addressing at a public meeting later, Harish Rao said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao himself, was a son of a farmer and very much aware of agriculture and its related problems. The KCR Government was determined to complete the irrigation projects in the state.
Stating that Rs 186 crore was spent for the project last year and this time about Rs 600 crore will be spent for turning the project into a reservoir. He said the officials were asked to complete the works of main canal and repairs of distributaries on time. Though the Congress leaders represented Karimnagar, they failed to take up SRSP works, he fumed. He attributed it to the negligence of the previous rulers, who failed to focus on the farm and irrigation sectors. The TRS Government will work for irrigating a total of 9.63 lakh acres and ensure water to the tail-end areas, he said.
