RSPB outclass Punjab to clinch Senior Women National Championship title

Bengaluru: Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) produced a brilliant performance as they defeated Hockey Punjab 3-1 in the finals of the Hockey India Women National Championship to clinch the ‘A’ Division title.

Railways opened their account first in the final match against Punjab.

After the goalless first half, Ritusha Kumari Arya scored in the 34th minute to give them the lead.

Punjab nulled that almost from the restart through Hardeep Kaur. With the game seemingly heading towards a shootout, Railways’ Navneet Kaur converted a stroke in the 54th minute to put her side ahead again and doubled it with another stroke in the 57th minute to give Railways the victory and the Nationals title.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy also took on Hockey Odisha on the final day to finish third at the Nationals.

The final match started on the attacking note with Madhya Pradesh scoring the first goal through Ishika Chaudhary in the 12th minute, which was followed by the second goal from Karishma Singh.

Odisha hit back with a penalty corner conversion by Asmita Barla in the 40th minute, but couldn’t find the equalizer, giving Madhya Pradesh a 2-1 win. (ANI)
