Mumbai, Oct 1 : The Sensex abandoned most of its gains as the market closed today. It marginally rose higher at the level of 26,227, whereas the Nifty ended marginally down at 7,946.10 level.

Stocks such as HCL Technologies from the IT sector proved as the biggest Nifty loser after it sounded revenue alarm owing to adverse currency movement.

Ultratech Cement and Sun Pharma were among the top gainers on the Nifty. Banking stocks added to the injury as heavyweights HDFC Bank, HDFC and ICICI Bank fell much as 5.8 percent and 5 percent.

Market analysts believe that the sentiment on the streets was mellowed by data that showed India’s manufacturing activity in September slowed more than expected to a seven-month low. (ANI)
