Sharpshooter held for triple murder

New Delhi: A sharpshooter of the notorious Sonu Daryapur’s gang has been arrested on the charge of murdering a rival gang’s kingpin, his friend and a police officer in west Delhi in April, police said on Wednesday.

Police said accused Parmeet Dabas, 28, shot dead Bhupinder, the latter’s Personal Security Officer and Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Vijay and friend Arun on April 30. Constable Kuldeep was injured in that incident, after which Dabas was absconding.

“Dabas was arrested on August 2 when he arrived near Sanjay Van in south Delhi. A loaded 9mm pistol and two cartridges were seized from him. He is a close relative of gangster Sonu Daryapur,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Singh Kushwah said.

Dabas carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

He represented India in rugby in Pakistan in 2005, in Sri Lanka in 2006, and in Uzbekistan in 2015.

The accused told police that he fell in bad company in 2007 after coming in contact with local criminal Sandeep in Chawala area.

“In April 2016, Dabas was underwent pancreatic surgery at a private hospital. He could not repay the loan he had raised for the surgery. He called up Daryapur for help. The gangster agreed to help if he in turn helped in killing Bhupinder. He thereafter joined the Daryapur gang,” the officer said.

The officer said after keeping track of Bhupinder’s movement, they shot at him and his friend in Peeragarhi area of west Delhi. Bhupinder, Arun and Vijay were killed on the spot.
