SRDP will lead to environmental disaster: Uttam

Coming down heavily on TRS government for its policies, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that unscientific approach of the government would severely harm the green cover in city leading to environmental disaster.

He said that state government’s stance over developing the Strategic Raod Development Program (SRDP) would spell a doom for the park. During a power point presentation on SRDP by the Congress leader Marri shashidhar Reddy at Gandhi Bhawan, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that TRS government was destroying KBR and other parks in the name of development. He reiterated that Congress party would not be a mute spectator to the destructive policies of the government. He said, “Developmental activities must be carried out keeping the public interests in view but TRS has been eyeing only political and financial gains”, said Uttam.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that state government has been centralizing the resources promising to build Skyways and twin towers and this would lead to severe repercussions on the environment of city in future. He said that projects like SRDP and others would also lead to traffic issues in the future. He flayed the state government for causing unnecessary delays to the Metro Rail Project by stopping the project in the middle.

Earlier, former Vice-Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Marri Shashidhar Reddy gave a power point presentation on the harmful effects of the SRDP project and warned the state government of widespread protests against it. He alleged that TRS government wanted to grab the precious land of KBR Park in the name of development. “If this project is materialized it would be very dangerous for the surrounding colonies and in case of rains it would lead to floods in the area. This project would not leave any space for the water to pass,” he said.

Noted environmentalist Purushottam Reddy said that if anything done by the State Government is in the interest of people it would be respected but government was neglecting the environmental loss caused by this project.

Several leaders of Congress party and other experts were also present. (NSS)
