Staff crunch affects protection of Waqf properties

waqf board

Following the split of Waqf Board between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, staff crunch has affected protection of Waqf properties in Telangana. On the other hand new controversy erupted over hiring 40 outsourced staff mostly retired persons. They are being paid a whopping amount. Representation was made with the government against the appointment of retired persons on which Secretary Minority Welfare sought report from the Waqf Board. However even after one month Waqf Board has not submitted the report to the government. It is said that Waqf Board failed to give satisfactory reply in connection with appointment of retired employees.

The number of outsourced staff is 45 while the number of permanent and temporary staff in Waqf Board is 185. Temporary employees are mostly relatives of existing employees who have entered into Waqf Board through political patronage or recommendation thus nepotism has also affected the performance of Waqf Board.
