Students advised to do social service to society – Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan and others

Hyderabad: A function was organized by Engineers’ Without Borders to release the book ‘Sustainable Development-Give Something Back to the Society’ written by Dr. Shaukat Ali Mirza.

Speaking on this occasion Prof. A. Venugopal Reddy, VC of JNTU-H told that this book will create good impressions. He lamented that some teachers and students are not taking interest in education. The students are seeking admissions in colleges only to engage themselves in extracurricular activities and not with an intention to do service to society. He appreciated the book and advised to keep this book in all the libraries so that everybody could read it.

Prof. S. Ramachandram, VC of OU told that the students should not seek admissions in colleges to become engineers, to earn money or go to US but they should work for the development of society. It should be their motto.

Education sector is not fulfilling its responsibility to make students good citizens. It seems that the objective of the students has been confined only to develop themselves. This trend has to be changed. Although this book is expensive, it should be read by everyone. He advised the published to reduce its cost so that it could be accessible to every person. He further told that for the education abroad, SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities Govt. allocated Rs. 100 crore but only a few students could utilize this facility. He impressed the need for the concerned officials to ensure that a maximum number of students take advantage of this scheme.
