Telangana is only State to take up building of two bedroom houses for poor: KTR

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao has said the Telangana is the only State in the country to have taken up construction of two-bed room houses for the weaker sections at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore.
Speaking after performing Bhoomi Puja for construction of 1,620 two-bedroom-houses, including infrastructure facilities at D.Pochampally village under Dundigal mandal of Medchal District, KTR said the project will be completed by next August and it will be a model township where these houses will be constructed with modernized technology providing roads, drainage, drinking water facilities and all infrastructure for the convenience of the residents.
The Minister directed the concerned contractor to provide necessary provision for the planting of trees at the project and requested the MP, MLA and MLC to coordinate with the contractor and the officials for providing space for the planting of trees as was being done in gated communities to maintain proper greenery for the pollution-free environment. The project has been taken up in a seven-acre plot and the cost of each unit will be around Rs 8.5 lakh with an area of 560 sq.ft.
The Minister also said the project is a continuous one and construction of 2BHK will be taken up continuously till reaching the target to get the housing to the citizens of the city and the State. One lakh houses is a target for the GHMC where most of the works have started and nearing completion. The Minister said these projects are being taken outside the city as lands were not available in the twin cities for taking up the housing scheme in this connection. He appealed to all those residing in the slums and other localities to come forward to provide the land so that the scheme can be taken up in the twin cities itself instead of taking in the other far places.
Responding to the plea of Ch. Malla Reddy, MP, the Minister directed the Collector to sort out the issue pertaining to pattas, assigned lands and other disputes amicably for the convenience of the citizens. The minister also hailed the efforts of the GHMC Commissioner and Chief Engineer for taking up the 2BHK scheme on a war-footing basis.
Local MLA Vivekanand also spoke. MLC Shambipur Raju, Corporators, local representatives and various heads of departments have participated in the program. (NSS)
