Bundi : Tension prevailed after a community objected to the installation of an idol on a cenotaph atop a hill in the city here, prompting police to arrest 20 people.
Deputy Superintendent of Police of Bundi Samandar Singh said the 20 people were arrested and a minor boy was detained yesterday for attempts to disrupt law and order situation.
Prohibitory orders under the CrPC Section 144 have been imposed banning assembly of four of more people in the area.
The police officer said the situation was improving.
The members of the community held a meeting yesterday and demanded removal of the idol and closed their shops in the city in protest.
Later, they also attempted to take out a procession but were prevented from doing so by the police, following which they pelted stones and caused damage to some shops.
Minister in-charge of Bundi district Srichand Kriplani had termed the demand of the idol’s removal as “unfair” and said it was placed on the cenotaph for centuries.
