Tension in UoH as police foil students’ rally

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) after police foiled the ‘Chalo University’ rally organised by different students’ unions on Wednesday. Several students were also taken into custody by the police.

Large of number of policemen remained deployed throughout the day at the university’s main gate and inside the premises. Raising slogans against the University’s Vice-Chancellor V. Appa Rao, the students demanded his immediate dismissal.

In another development, UoH Controller of Examination Prof. V. Krishna resigned from the post to express solidarity with the protesting students. He walked out of the meeting of the UoH Academic Council which was also attended by Vice-Chancellor V. Appa Rao and two representatives of Union HRD Ministry. After coming out of meeting hall, he joined the protesting students and announced his resignation.

Meanwhile, nearly 100 students held protest at the camp office of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao at Begumpet. They demanded that the Chief Minister fulfil his promise of speaking to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over removal of Appa Rao from VC’s post. The protesting students were arrested and shifted to Panjagutta Police Station. (INN)
