Three youths from Bangalore drown off Puducherry

Puducherry: Three persons from Bangalore drowned in the Bay of Bengal off neighbouring Chinna Veerampattinam village today while taking a bath, police said.

Amit Kumar (24) and Rajeev (22), both employees of a private bank and Sumant, 22, an IT employee drowned while taking a bath, they said.

The trio had come here yesterday for a weekend stay.

The bodies have been kept at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital in the town.

Another youth Kallon, who was part of the same group, was rushed to JIPMER hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, police said a 17-year-old youth, Isaivanan from Manaveli village near Veerampattinam, who rushed to save the youths was also dragged into the sea by the strong waves.

Police said they had intensified steps to locate Isaivanan.
