TN Sports Minister humiliates athletes, says ‘no medals, no food’

Chennai : Courting controversy, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Dr. Sundararaj was seen humiliating young female hockey players, asking them that why he should feed them if they were not able to win any medals and questioning their physical appearance.

Dr. Sundararaj, who was inspecting and interacting with the young players during an inspection at a school in Pudhukottai, in the video which has gone viral was seen reminding the girls about the scholarship money that has been granted to the college.

At one point he is seen gesturing to a player and asking her, “have you gained weight? Does your mother know about it? Will you go back home if the food is not provided here? A lot is being spent on you here.”

As he continues inspecting the players asking them questions constantly, he is seen exclaiming in exasperation over the amount being spent on shoes and apparel for the athletes.

“We give you dresses, shoes and spend Rs 250 for your food and even after that if you don’t win a medal, what is the use of it? You must win. We make arrangements for your stay in hostel, give you food and clothing and you don’t win medals,” Dr. Sundararaj asks one of the players.

He is also seen asking the players to focus on sports and studies as their parents were struggling to make ends meet and pay for their education. (ANI)
